Final agreement on the Nature Restoration Law reached
Last night, negotiators from the Parliament and Council reached a final agreement on the Nature Restoration Law.
IFOAM Organics Europe welcomes this important milestone for nature and biodiversity, an agreement including all originally foreseen ecosystems, which brings restoration targets of agricultural ecosystems back into the text.
Even though the targets were weakened compared to the Commission’s proposal, the organic movement is pleased to see the recognition of the importance of restoring pollinator populations and protecting biodiversity on farmland for resilient food production.
As the next step, the agreement will have to be endorsed by the Council and voted on in the Parliament in the coming weeks. Afterwards, it will depend on Member States to implement holistic, systemic solutions, such as organic farming and agroecological practices, to restore nature on agricultural land.
