The EU Organic Award for best organic food retailer was awarded to Gut Wulksfelde in Germany. Gut Wulksfelde operates a 600 m² farm shop, farms 450 hectares of land with over 50 varieties of vegetables and sells over 8,000 organic products.
Gut Wulksfelde began their activities in 1989 with the purchase of 260 hectares of land and, from there, it gradually expanded with the opening of the farm shop. Today, it has become a true “organic estate”, which includes a bakery, a zoo, a plant nursery, and a restaurant. It welcomes over 3,500 clients per week, and it’s a leisure destination in the area, teaching over 7,000 children each year about healthy nutrition and organic farming.
Gut Wulksfelde’s belief is that organic is the right path forward for the future of agriculture. They envision an agriculture that works in harmony with natural cycles, rather than disrupting them. Therefore, they give the highest priority to soil fertility, respect towards animals, and are also on their way to becoming a climate-neutral company.
One of Gut Wulksfelde’s core values is transparency. They believe it is important for their clients to have the possibility to take a look “behind the scenes” and observe how the food they eat is produced. Guests can experience first-hand the work of the farm and participate in activities, which allows them to appreciate the benefits of organic agriculture and the importance of farming.
