Let’s Discuss Organic, Language matters: How to communicate about organic to audiences on the left and right using targeted language
With the EU elections in June, organic will be faced with communicating organic to an audience using increasingly right and populist rhetoric.
It is crucial we get our messages right as efforts to dismantle environmental and climate policies – such as a backtracking on nature restoration, synthetic pesticide legislation and rules in the Common Agricultural Policy – are increasingly aggressive. However, these policies are critical to ensure a transformation to sustainable, healthy and resilient food systems, a key pillar of organic farming.
But the issues do not only persist at the policy level, awareness and understanding of organic are generally low across the wider public.
In this member-only ‘Let’s Discuss Organic’ session guided by Maximilian Engel, Political communication officer at Organics Europe we will:
- Discuss the tactics employed by large agricultural corporations to drown out the voices of farmers of all stripes, including organic farmers, in favour of industrial farming;
- Introduce a new messaging framework and example narratives positioning organic as the main solution to political parties across the spectrum.
