Focus on the EU Organic Day and Awards, and the #OrganicDelivers campaign
This September, IFOAM Organics Europe is celebrating the transformative power of organic and its essential role in building a sustainable future for food and agriculture.
On 23 September the European organic movement celebrates EU Organic Day, and EU Organic Awards’ winners for 2025 are unveiled during a ceremony at the European Commission.
Also, this September, to further raise awareness of organic and its benefits, we launched our new #OrganicDelivers campaign, spotlighting two key topics that show how organic solutions are driving meaningful change for people, farming, and the planet. Read more below.
EU Organic Day & the 2025 EU Organic Awards
Every year on 23 September, Europe celebrates EU Organic Day – dedicated to recognising the achievements and potential of the organic sector. Officially established in 2021 by the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council, the day underlines progress toward the EU’s goal of ensuring that 25% of all agricultural land is under organic production by 2030. It also reflects the four principles of organic: Health, Ecology, Fairness, and Care.
Since 2022, EU Organic Day has also featured the EU Organic Awards, which spotlight excellence and innovation across the organic value chain. The awards celebrate projects in farming, processing, retail, and food services that stand out for their sustainability, creativity, and impact. They also increase awareness of the EU organic logo and strengthen understanding of the organic sector as a whole. The Awards are jointly organised by the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Committee of the Regions, COPA-COGECA, and IFOAM Organics Europe.
This year, 21 finalists from 13 EU countries have been shortlisted across seven award categories. The winners will be announced on 23 September during the official awards ceremony, which will be live-streamed on the European Commission’s website.

The #OrganicDelivers Campaign
How does organic farming really work? How is it different from conventional agriculture? And how does it reshape food systems to make them more resilient, fair, and future-proof?
Our #OrganicDelivers campaign dives into these questions through documentaries, podcasts, and stories from the field – showing how organic is pioneering solutions for 21st-century food and farming.
Two short documentaries
- Organic Plant Breeding
Discover how organic breeders develop resilient, disease-resistant varieties that produce high-quality, flavourful food. This approach prioritises prevention, diversity, and natural methods, steering away from heavy chemical inputs or technological quick fixes like new genomic techniques (NGTs). Watch the documentary here. - Biodistricts
Explore regions where farmers, citizens, businesses, and local authorities collaborate to create more sustainable and resilient communities. In biodistricts, organic principles extend beyond farms to shape healthier lifestyles, stronger value chains, and even the local tourism sector. Watch the documentary here.
