Organic movement’s preliminary statement on CAP negotiations
“This CAP deal is a missed opportunity to engage European agriculture in an ambitious transition towards sustainability. We need action now and Member States face a huge responsibility to deliver CAP Strategic Plans that address the collapse of biodiversity and the climate crisis” – said our President Jan Plagge at the conclusion of today’s CAP trilogue negotiations.
“The Green Deal and the Farm to Fork strategy are actually an opportunity for farmers and the right approach to enable the farming community to adapt to these challenges. The organic movement counts on the Commission to ensure that national CAP Strategic Plans will support farmers to convert to and maintain farm systems like organic. The farming community are aware of the urgency and willing to engage their farms on a transition path with the right support and incentives in place. Business as usual is not an option anymore and we cannot wait for seven more years.”
