Review of events – September 2025
The Organic Summit 2025 in Copenhagen brought together the European organic movement for two days of inspiring discussions, innovative ideas, and vibrant networking.
Day 1:
- 25% organic by 2030: Our President Jan Plagge highlighted the need for clear targets, simplified choices, recognition of organic as “green by definition” in the CAP, fair and stable prices, and a realistic transition timeline spanning two CAP periods.
- Animal welfare: Laura Sauques emphasised how organic farming supports natural behaviors, outdoor access, disease prevention, and lower stocking densities.
- Why organics matter: Panels highlighted organic’s benefits for climate resilience, biodiversity, soil and water protection, food security, and public trust.
- Shaping the CAP: Discussions stressed fair income support, rewarding public goods delivery, and dedicated budgets for environmental, climate, and animal welfare measures.
Day 2:
- Organic at its best: The event showcased top European initiatives, including past European Organic Awards winners. The Awards return on 23 September, EU Organic Day. Finalists here.
- Next generation of organic farmers: The breakout “Who will grow tomorrow’s organic food?” featured young farmers sharing their experiences and the OEYN’s vision for generational renewal. Position paper.
- Organic public meals: The event showcased insights on scaling sustainable procurement in schools and public institutions, showing how policy and practice can transform food systems. More info.
- Organic Summit Charter: We launched a charter guiding the future of organic around land, animals, and food, and showing how to achieve 25% organic production and consumption by 2030.
Two days of knowledge sharing, networking, and celebration highlighted why organic is essential for a sustainable, fair, and resilient Europe. A huge thank you to all speakers, organisers, and participants for making Organic Summit 2025 a success!
